The collaborative effort reflects a shared commitment to provide high-quality child care by recognizing the vital role nature plays in young children’s overall health and development, and creating fun outdoor spaces that inspire curiosity, creativity, and physical activity among young
learners.
Help SC Wildlife Thrive!
We share our state with wild creatures who inspire wonder. Maybe you have paddled through the Sparkleberry Swamp and seen the vivid yellow of a Prothonotary warbler, or hiked in the forest when a white-tailed deer has scampered ahead of you, or quietly waited in your tree stand when a Barred owl has flown by. Experiences like this make us feel a deep and powerful connection to the Earth, to the ancient rhythms of nature. We feel humbled to be a tiny part of it, and the urge to protect it grows stronger with each new encounter.
Project Wild Workshop
“Oh Deer!”, shouted the instructor as several educators ran across a field recently to find what they needed to survive as a white-tailed deer. This classic activity from Project WILD gives a hands-on demonstration of what white-tailed deer, or any animal for that matter, need to survive in a habitat, which is food, water, shelter, and space.
Dove Hunt with Academics Afield Students
Thank YOU to the South Carolina Wildlife Partnership (SCWP) for facilitating last weekend’s dove hunt with our Academics Afield students from Clemson University. We truly appreciate SCWP working with the landowner who allowed these students to participate in a dove shoot on their property. This group is made up of student “guides” and student “participants” learning to hunt. It was especially nice for those participants who harvested their first dove.
Happy campers abound at Camp Wildwood!
High school students from across the state gathered recently at King's Mountain State Park to take part in Camp Wildwood, a conservation camp founded in 1954. Campers attending the camp are selected after being nominated by a teacher or other advisor and take part in daily classes including Wildlife, Fisheries, Forestry, Hunter Education, Boating, and more. In addition to the classes, campers participate in hikes, crazy sports, team building, leadership development, and dances. This camp is an excellent opportunity for high school students to learn more about careers in natural resources and the outdoors.

POWR+ : On the Water Boating Orientation Recap
On April 17th, we held our second POWR+ class--On the Water Boating Orientation at Lake Moultrie. POWR+ classes are an extension of our annual Palmetto Outdoors Women Retreat (POWR) designed to offer in-depth instruction on a particular topic. We aim to build confidence and encourage participants to try these activities themselves when they leave the event. Since Boating and Trailering was a popular class at last year’s retreat, we wanted to offer this opportunity for women to have even more hands-on experience with this topic in a supportive learning environment.
