WAIT Partner Update: Michelin (US5)

WAIT Partner Update: Michelin (US5)

Michelin (US5) in Lexington held a teambuilding event to enhance their WAIT area. We had a birdhouse building contest, hung up additional feeders and bird houses on the grounds, planted more native flowers, added additional water sources, removed invasive plants, added outside seating and added new signage.  During the two day event, the teams worked beyond the WAIT area and picked up litter along the road and on site.

SCWF's WAIT Partner Event

SCWF’s Wildlife And Industry Together (WAIT) program is a partnership with conservation-minded businesses throughout the state who want to help wildlife thrive by enhancing their properties and providing educational opportunities for their employees and communities. To say thank you to our WAIT partners, SCWF recently hosted a sporting clay shooting competition at the Palmetto State Armory's Outdoors Shooting Facility in Swansea.

30 WAIT Sites Re-certified

SCWF) has re-certified 30 Wildlife And Industry Together (W.A.I.T.) sites for 2017.  The W.A.I.T. program recognizes industries in South Carolina who are dedicated to protecting the environment and who keep wildlife needs in mind when making their land management decisions.  Requirements for certification include wildlife habitat enhancement projects, environmental education for employees, and community outreach.

Martin Marietta Certified as WAIT Site

Martin Marietta Certified as WAIT Site

The W.A.I.T. certification recognizes several habitat protection & enhancement projects of Martin Marietta, including reclaiming land associated with a former slot mining operation across the street from the active quarry, and maintenance of quail and dove food plots.  Future plans include installation of bat houses, duck and bird boxes, and conversion of a portion of the loblolly pine to a long-leaf pine ecosystem.  An abundance of roads and numerous walking trails allow the site to be used for wildlife enhancement and educational opportunities for local schools, civic and church organizations.
