Following the tradition of hunting and the interests of the founders of the South Carolina Wildlife Federation, Community Outreach Manager Ari Hippensteal attended National Hunting and Fishing Day at Oconee County’s South Cove County Park near Seneca. This event teaches both children and adults alike the importance of hunting, angling, trapping, and other outdoor skills. Despite the rain, the event was well attended and participants enjoyed a variety of offerings around the park. National Hunting and Fishing Day is on the fourth Saturday in September, this day also promotes the contribution of hunters and anglers to conservation and connects hunters and anglers to programs in their state. SCWF has been a proud partner in this event for many years!
Community Outreach Manager Ari Hippensteal showcased SCWF’s “education animals”, which is a collection of furs and taxidermy animals native to South Carolina and a knot-tying station where they learned some of the basic fishing knots. Both of these provided a hands-on experience as well as an educational one and was a great opportunity to closely connect with some of our animals, such as bobcats, coyotes, and muskrats, and learn a new skill.
